According to a survey by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) (2022), 71% of the 100 industries interviewed plan to adopt sustainable measures as part of their corporate strategy. In the food and beverage industry, this happens through ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices, where recycling and waste reduction are essential. Among the sustainable initiatives is the saving of water and energy, which play an indispensable role in the production process, such as:
- Water is one of the main ingredients in beverages such as soda and beer (equivalent to between 90 – 95% of beer by mass);
- Water is used to assist in industrial processes (such as in the utilities area) as well as directly in the product recepie;
- Energetic consumption in this sector revolves around refrigeration, steam and compressed air. Also, the use of electrical and thermal energy in the processes of filling, pasteurization, heating and cooking.
- The combination of production lines and systems with electric motors (which move conveyors and machines) represent more than 50% of energy costs.
This great importance and participation only highlight why these natural resources must be used consciously in order to avoid their end. The industry’s goal is to increase annual progress in energy efficiency from the current 2.2% to more than 4% by 2030. In water resources this also happens, due to the liter per liter indicator. This parameter seeks to measure and optimize the use of liters of water for each liter of beverage produced.
This case shows how a large beverage industry used the ST-One Solution to monitor the use of natural resources in an intelligent way, resulting in a more efficient use and less waste of water and energy. Learn more about us.
